History Lovers’ Book Discussion Group

This class is intended for anyone who has a love for history and would enjoy discussing, on a biweekly basis, a book that covers a significant historical topic, event, or personality.  For the first class, please read The Soul of America: The Battle For Our Better Angels by Jon Meacham.  Students will choose from among the following books for informal, round table discussion in subsequent fun and enlightening classes: On Tyranny: 20 Lessons from the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder, Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson, The Last Palace: Europe’s Turbulent Century in Five Lives and One Legendary House by Norman L. Eisen, Down the Great Unknown: John Wesley Powell’s 1869 Journey of Discovery and Tragedy through the Grand Canyon by Edward Dolnick, Heaven’s Ditch: God, Gold, and Murder on the Erie Canal by Jack Kelly, My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Leadership: In Turbulent Times by Doris Kearns Goodwin, and The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto.
