Springtime At The DuPont
Mansions In The Brandywine Valley |
The history of the DuPont family in the
Brandywine Valley of Delaware begins with a docent-led tour of Hagley, the 1803 Georgian-style home, Eleutherian Mills, and the
restored 19th century French-style gardens.
Following lunch at Hagley, we will visit Nemours for a guided tour of this 300-acre
estate built for Alfred I. DuPont in 1910. The
mansion, a modified
Louis XV1 French Chateau, contains fine examples of European and
American furniture, tapestries and outstanding works of art. A
guided bus tour will take us through the magnificent French-style
gardens, landscaped with fountains, pools and statuary, surrounded
by natural woodlands. Please note that trip participants will have
to walk up stairs.
