Spices for Flavor and Wellness

Spices offer creative and natural ways to achieve flavorful and healthy meals.  This lecture will discuss historical and cultural uses of spices for flavor and for their coloring, preservative, antioxidant, and healing properties, as well as best practices for storing them.  Learn the basics of Ayurveda, the ancient Indian art of holistic healing, and the taste energetics (cold and hot properties) of spices that provide the six tastes (rasas) in meals designed to balance the individual body constitution (dosha).  Tips will be provided but no actual cooking will occur in class.
