ID : 8181
« back to classes page

The Books of Samuel (Parts 1 and 2) are components of the theological history of Israel in the prophets section of the Old Testament.  The first of the two books covers Samuel’s birth, early years, and prophetic call. It includes the story of the Ark of the Covenant, about the oppression under the Philistines and the annointing of Saul as Israel’s first king.  When Saul proved unworthy, the Israelites turned to David to defeat their enemies. Class will discuss the meaning and significance of this book in the context of the Bible and in the twenty-first century. Instructor will provide the translated text to be read in advance of the first class.
