« back to classes page

Although W.H. Auden (1907-1973) disavowed the poem he wrote upon the outbreak of World War II, “September 1, 1939” gained worldwide fame and experienced newfound popularity just after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  Auden’s lasting prominence as an English-American is due to his versatility, intelligence, passion, serious wit and witty seriousness. This class provides a forum for fans and newcomers alike to relish and discuss a selection of his poems.
