« back to classes page
Inspired by the recently published and highly acclaimed Ninth Street Women, this lecture explores the pioneering role that five female painters played in the larger movement of Abstract Expressionism. Looking closely at the work of Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Joan Mitchell, and Helen Frankenthaler, the lecture focuses on the unique moment when the art world moves to New York City and how these female artists worked and thrived during challenging and exhilarating times.
