ID : 7778
« back to classes page

This class will attempt to shed light on the ever contentious topic of impeachment: its origins, history, standards, and debates.  Toward this end, the session will consider the Founders' conception(s) of impeachment, the impeachment and trials of Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, current and often overlapping or exclusive constitutional interpretations of "high Crimes and Misdemeanors" as a standard for impeachment, and current scholarly and political debates.  Applicability to current federal officials will be left for class discussion.
