Come and explore a fascinating medium! You will learn a range of techniques including basic, variegated, and graded washes. Develop a unique vision as you learn about or strengthen your understanding of color, composition, and building value through successive washes. Demonstrations will be given and examples from masters shown as we paint using photographs as reference. One on one instruction benefits students of all levels.

Basic Materials List
Buy artist grade tubes, but if you are on a budget the “Cotman” watercolors by Winsor & Newton are OK. Small: 5ml/.17 oz OK
Winsor & Newton Aureolin Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Cobalt Blue (Cobalt Blue Deep is OK), Winsor Blue (Green Shade) OR Pthalo Blue, Cadmium Red, and Permanent Rose. [2 yellows, 2 blues, 2 reds]
I recommend 140lb. Cold Press watercolor blocks 9”x12“, 10”x14“, or 12”x16.” Blocks have a gum binding around the edges. This helps to keep the paper flat and eliminates the need for ‘stretching’ the paper.
Utrecht French Premium Watercolor blocks (Utrecht only)
Montval Watercolor blocks (Cheap Joes, Jerry’s Artarama)
Kilimanjaro Original White watercolor blocks (Cheap Joes)
Arches. Available at most suppliers, it is more expensive, but it is beautiful paper.
Buy synthetic sable such as Winsor & Newton ‘Cotman,’  Princeton synthetic sable, or Mimik Kolinsky Synthetic short handled brushes.
One flat: ¾” (½ “ or 1” if you cannot get a ¾). One #8 round.
Later add: a Liner or Rigger #2
Creative Mark Palette, Tom Lynch Palette, or an empty half pan ‘box.’ I use a John Pike standard palette.
Paper Towels
2 plastic containers for water
HB or B drawing pencil
Eraser (I prefer a kneaded eraser)
