The Early Renaissance in Florence

This session focuses on Florence and the emergence of Italian humanism and humanist art.  Class will cover the rise of the Medici family and the reasons that Florence became the hub of the Renaissance.  Artists to be examined will include Masaccio, Fra Angelico, Fra Filippo Lippi, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Alberti, Verrocchio, Ghirlandaio, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and a young Michelangelo.
