Spend the afternoon celebrating our 80th year at our mini academy. Students may attend the keynote at 2pm and then choose between 2 concurrent single-session classes at 3pm before closing out the afternoon with music and a reception at 4pm.
Keynote: Psychology and the Good Life
This lecture, based on her undergraduate psychology course by the same name, will give SAS students a taste of the most popular class ever offered at Yale University, with approximately one-fourth of all undergraduates having enrolled in it this past winter. Dive into what psychology and science tell us about happiness. Learn strategies to form key habits to increase one’s overall happiness and well-being and start making behavioral changes through positive psychology.
LAURIE SANTOS, PhD, is a Psychology Professor at Yale University. She studies human cognition, its origins, and the evolutionary biases that influence our imperfect life choices. She has been featured on “NBC Nightly News” and the “Today Show,” as well as in The New York Times, GQ Magazine, Slate, and Oprah.com. A winner of numerous awards for her science and teaching, she was recently voted as one of Popular Science Magazine’s Brilliant 10 young minds and was named in Time Magazine as a “Leading Campus Celebrity.”
Alfred Stieglitz and His Circle by Page Knox
By 1938, Alfred Stieglitz was known as the country’s premier modern art promoter as well as an American photographer, particularly famous for his images of his wife, the avant-garde painter Georgia O’Keeffe. This lecture will explore Stieglitz’s vital role in establishing a wholly American brand of modernism and in expanding the public’s acceptance of photography as an art form.
