« back to classes page
This course will explore impressionism in music by examining the life and music of two of the most famous composers of the movement: Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.  We will investigate their fascination with timbres and colors of sound, as well as the movement to create an authentically French music that followed the Franco-Prussian War.  We will study their new musical syntax and the wealth of compositional innovations in their orchestral and piano works.
