In celebration of Scarsdale Adult School’s 80th birthday, we will explore great pieces of music that share the same opus number: Opus 80. These varied works run the gamut from large-scale orchestral pieces, to intimate chamber works, to works with chorus and piano. Some of the works to be examined include Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor, Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy.
