« back to classes page
2018 marks the centennial of the birth of the legendary Leonard Bernstein, arguably the foremost figure in American music during the twentieth century.  His work as a composer, pianist, author, music lecturer, and longtime conductor, primarily with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, cemented his reputation worldwide as one of the most talented and successful musicians America has ever produced.  The major portion of this presentation will be devoted to excerpts from an outstanding documentary on his career from the PBS “American Masters” series.  In addition, students will have an opportunity to enjoy video segments of Bernstein conducting Symphonic Dances from his masterpiece “West Side Story” as well as an amazing dual role as pianist and conductor during a performance of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
