« back to classes page
Climate change, threats to species, erosion of terrains and seashores are much on the mind of contemporary poets and writers.  In this course, participants will read works that call attention to environmental issues and that are designed to stimulate both reflection and action.  Our prose text will be Richard Powers’s The Overstory (2018), a series of linked stories describing the interaction of human activities and trees.  The book will be supplemented by poems representing the new genre of eco-poetry which focuses on ecological themes.  Questions of Iiterary merit as well as importance of the issues presented will stimulate lively discussion.
