« back to classes page
CourseGraphic Beginning in the late 1950s and continuing to the present, the world has shifted from mechanical and analog electronic technology to the digital age of information. This class will explore the changes that have affected communication and media caused by the rapid evolution from analog media (film, long playing records, wired telephones) to digital replacements (digital cameras and DVDs, compact disks, cell phones). The lectures will explain the common characteristics of old and new technologies as well as the forces motivating the evolution. This is not a class about how to use your phone or camera, but, rather, it is about how your devices work.
