The Lower East Side is now home to over 220 galleries, a number that has steadily climbed since 2007, when the New Museum opened on the Bowery. Some early settlers who opened shops in the neighborhood well before the museum?s opening include Cuchifritos (2001), Canada (2002), and Reena Spaulings (2003). Established galleries such as
Salon 94 and Lehmann Maupin soon swooped in to open downtown outposts. This tour will explore a number of exhibitions and talk about the neighborhood?s continued growth.
