Expressionism: Don’t Think…Feel

ID : 5705
« back to classes page
The goal of the expressionists was not to depict objective reality, but rather to explore the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events arouse within a person.  They achieved those results through distortion, exaggeration, primitivism and fantasy, and through the vivid, jarring, violent, and dynamic application of formal elements.  This class will examine Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriel Münter, Kathé Kollwitz, and Emil Nolde, among others, in studying the many forms and evolution of the expressionist art movement.
