Documentary: Wings Of Evolution |
Wings of Evolution reveals the
revolutionary educational system of Siragu, a school for homeless
and
underprivileged children located in the remote outskirts of Chennai
in Tamil Nadu, India. The traditional focus of education in India
has been one of rote learning and examination-based evaluation, with
no emphasis on children’s understanding of concepts, critical
thinking and implications in real life. Siragu School, in spite of
limited resources and unimaginable obstacles, has maintained a
quality of education rarely seen in the world today.
The film affirms the transformative powers of learning as you
witness the lives of children destined to be
illiterate until they were given this opportunity to learn. We hear
from parents who seek a better life for their offspring, from an
educator who founded the school and, most important, we hear the
voices of the children whose lives have been forever altered.
Following the documentary, there will be a question and answer
session with the producer of the film,
KOUSHALYA JEGANATHAN. The world premiere of the film was held
in October, 2007 at the South Asian International Film Festival.
