We are pleased to announce that in 2008 the
Scarsdale Adult School (SAS) will celebrate its 70th year of
continuing education. Over these seven decades, many thousands of
lifelong learners in Scarsdale and surrounding communities have
benefited from the School’s high quality courses and outstanding
faculty. This semester we hope you will assure the future of SAS
with your tax deductible contribution.
When SAS opened in 1938, the concept of a volunteer community group
organizing adult education in Westchester was truly innovative.
Eleven courses were offered on Tuesday evenings at the High School.
This year, our spring semester lists 86 courses, given at 8
locations, Monday through Friday, mornings, afternoons and evenings.
Student fees no longer keep pace with rising rents, staff and
faculty salaries, and general expenses. SAS does not receive
taxpayer or institutional funding. It was founded and continues as
an independent, nonprofit organization, totally separate from the
Board of Education.
To maintain our high standards and continue serving Westchester as
one of the most respected adult schools in America, the Trustees now
find it necessary to seek outside financial support. In this
anniversary year, we ask you to join us in strengthening our unique
community institution.
Sincerely,
Barbara Clapman, Co-Chair
Evelyn Stock, Co-Chair
Board of Trustees
