After Cubism: The Circle And The Square |
At the beginning of the twentieth
century many artists were influenced by the new representation of
realityvia the style and theory of Picasso's Cubism. Initially following
Picasso's analysis of forms and space using transparency and planar
fragmentation, Robert Delaunay (1885 - 1941) in France and Piet
Mondrian (1872 - 1944) in Holland gradually replaced their
observations of the natural work with abstraction focusing on
concepts of movement and balance. A slide-lecture describes how Delaunay turned toward the universal circle with prismatic colors
and when Mondrian developed rectangular grids with primary colors.
