Movie Matinees: Capturing The Past

What do we discover in historical films? Perhaps it's the sense of being alive during a particular time or event or, participating in a nearly mythic moment, all to understand it better. We do this by connecting with delineated characters in detailed contexts as created by remarkable directors, actors and crews.

Films being considered to explore how these creations of the past affect us are DeSica's General Della Rovere, Nair's Vanity Fair, Ford's The Searchers, Gavras' Z, Sturges' The Great Escape, Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin, Levinson's Good Morning Vietnam, Szab's Mephisto and Cornelius' Genvieve.

Please note that the movies listed are a sampling of films being considered for viewing and are screened
at the teacher's discretion.
Returning students please note that class will meet 10 minutes earlier this semester
