Edwardian England: Monarchy, Modernity, And
Masterpieces |
|
In 1901 Edward VII acceded to the throne as the new
King of England. This illustrated course surveys the great events of
his extraordinary reign, as well as the events of the following
years when his son George V became king. It was a period of
remarkable contrasts – from dazzling country house weekends, to the
well-organized rallies of the suffragettes.
This amazing era also
enables us to study masterpieces of English Impressionist art, and
theatre censorship, and the intellectual coterie of the Bloomsbury
Group, and the hoax played by Virginia Woolf on the British navy. |
